With this you can use the old 1.07 executable but play on 1.08 servers! Meaning you can use all your old tools/programs/hacks. Note that most fixes of 1.08 were server side anyway.

Backup strings.dll and download the new one here. When you start halo is should say "Made by omega". If so, you can now use the version command.
